Reasons to Consider a Rooftop Tent for Your Adventures
Reasons to Consider a Rooftop Tent for Your Adventures
When we are out on family adventures, I keep spotting rooftop tents on cars en route and at campsites. They are definitely gaining popularity and there are many reasons why they are a brilliant choice for camping. In this article, we’ll explore some of the many reasons to consider a rooftop tent for your adventures. Read on to find out more.
- Quick & Easy to Set Up
One of the things my husband dislikes about camping is setting up and packing away the tent. It often takes quite a long time and can be challenging when the weather isn’t ideal. (Why does it nearly always rain?!) With a rooftop tent, you don’t need to worry about this. A rooftop tent doesn’t take long at all to open up and close – just a minute or so! – so you’ll save lots of time and effort compared to a regular ground tent. Likewise, it’s really quick and easy to pack away too when you are ready to head home.
- Camping at a Height Comes with Benefits
With a rooftop tent you are camping on top of your vehicle, so you don’t need to worry about finding a perfect level spot of grass to pitch your tent on. You also don’t need to worry about flooding if it’s raining heavily – roof tents are definitely great for unpredictable weather situations!
When you’re not camping directly on the ground, you’ll be much warmer too. Generally, roof tents are made from a thicker material than regular tents as well, which also helps keep you toasty when it’s colder. The stronger and more durable material also keeps rain and wind out and reduces noises from the campsite.
Being elevated to the top of your car will also offer you much better views of your surrounding area, letting you take in the scenery of your location whilst enjoying the comforts of your roof tent.
- A More Affordable Comfortable Option
Roof tents are not cheaper than regular tents, but they are cheaper than other comfortable options such as renting an RV or buying a campervan or caravan. Plus, they don’t really have any ongoing costs such as storage fees. If you have a garage or a shed, you should be able to store your roof tent comfortably at home when you’re not using it. A roof tent is a great middle ground between regular camping and campervans and a simple way to make camping more luxurious.
- Increased Freedom
With a rooftop tent installed on your car, you can enjoy increased freedom when it comes to choosing a spot for camping. You don’t need to find a large flat (and preferably dry!) area for you to pitch your tent on and you don’t need to worry about the size of your vehicle like you might with a caravan, campervan, or a motorhome.
- Extra Packing/Storage Space
Storage is very limited when you’re camping and another big plus of having a roof tent is that you get extra storage space for your things. Even when the roof tent is closed, you can fit a good amount of stuff inside. I recommend keeping your sleeping bags and pillows ready in there, especially if you will be arriving at your destination in the evening or are expecting wet weather.
As you can see, there are many reasons to consider a rooftop tent for your camping adventures. They are available in hard and soft-shell designs and in lots of styles and sizes to suit different vehicles and group sizes.
