How to Get out of your Comfort Zone and Learn New Things
Life in the comfort zone might feel easy and safe but what is life without trying new things? Life is full of opportunities for us to enjoy but only if we are willing to take the steps needed to embrace them. If you are feeling a bit “meh” about life, it is the perfect time to have a good think about what you want your life to be like and how you can make changes that will improve your life quality.
Gather inspiration from everything around you and pay attention to things that you see or hear that spark something inside you. Books, magazines, films, TV, documentaries, other people, social media, blogs – inspiration is everywhere. Perhaps you already have it all in your mind and just need to make a plan for how to make your dreams come true.
This website is part of my journey of getting out of my comfort zone and learning new things that I am curious about. A few years ago, I had never been camping properly, I had no experience in hiking, and I had never even considered taking up running – all now big parts of my life.
These days, I am making a conscious effort to doing new things often. When I find myself thinking “oooh that looks fun/interesting/exciting!” about something, I research ways that I can explore the subject further by reading books, taking an online course, joining an event or booking a trip. I’m now in a make things happen mind set and it’s really helping me get more out of life.
Don’t wait for other people to join you and don’t wait to feel ready. It’s great to do things with friends and family, don’t get me wrong, but if you want to do something, do it for you when you want to do it. Life is very busy and it can be so hard to align schedules to make things happen sometimes that plans often fizzle out. Take things into your own hands if you really want to make something happen.
Also don’t wait to feel ready – that day may never come. Instead, push yourself out of your comfort zone and try things that feel a bit challenging and a bit scary perhaps. Start small, and move on to bigger challenges as you gain confidence about yourself and your abilities. I’m sure you already have some ideas in your head – things that you’ve wanted to do for a very long time and maybe some new ideas too. What have you been wanting to try, to learn, to explore? Where do you want to go? Now is the time to make these things happen.
Leaving your comfort zone and trying new things will not only make your life more exciting and interesting, it will also improve your mental health, your resilience and your self-confidence. As you see what you are capable of, you will feel a sense of personal growth. You will keep growing as you keep challenging yourself and embrace the wonderful experiences that life has to offer. You’ll also have fewer regrets when actively pursuing your dreams.
Take time to reflect on yourself and your life and what you want to change, make goals, and take action. Don’t wait – even small steps at the start will help you get out of your comfort zone to make your life more fulfilling, one adventure at a time. Have fun, keep a positive mindset and enjoy your life to the fullest!
