Simple Ways to Create More Calm in Your Life
Modern life can be so stressful and if we don’t actively take the time to counteract this, we will soon get run down and burnt out. In this article, we are going to explore some simple way to create more calm in your life. If you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed with life, read on for some helpful guidance.
- Create Calm Moments
I find that one of the best things that I can do for my own well-being and mental health is to carve out as many moments of calm as possible throughout each day. These moments don’t all have to be long. Sure, a nice soak in the bath or a long walk are both lovely but even just 5-10 minutes here and there can make all the difference too. If I see a chance of calm, I’ll take it. This could be 10 minutes enjoying a coffee in peace in the morning before the kids get up, or taking the longer way when walking somewhere to enjoy a few more minutes of my audiobook. It could be taking two minutes to simply lay down on your freshly made bed with your eyes closed or a moment breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the view as you open the windows in the morning. Small moments of actively doing something mindful and calm throughout the day will make you feel calmer and happier.
- Have Less Stuff
It’s very hard to feel calm if your home is messy and one of the best ways to reduce mess is to reduce the amount of belongings in your house. Dedicate some time each week to declutter your home bit by bit. This will make it easier to keep your house clean and clutter-free which will save you time, reduce stress, and make you feel much calmer too. Clean, clear surfaces and a clean environment is ideal for creating calm in your life.
- Do Less & Don’t Rush
These days, people are so busy. We’re often juggling full-time work with our own hobbies and our kids’ busy schedules and that on its own is already stressful. That’s before adding in our social lives and everything else that we feel that we need to do. The key to a calmer life is to do less. Embrace slow living and a diary with some white space to simply enjoy life instead of rushing from one thing to another all day long.
In general, try to avoid rushing as much as possible. The key to this is to be well-prepared and to allow extra time for things. If you find yourself constantly rushing for certain events, like the morning school run, take responsibility and make the changes you need to do to stop rushing. Get everyone up a little bit earlier and prepare uniforms and school bags the night before, for example.
- Experience More
Instead of being overwhelmed by stuff and long to-do lists, focus on enjoying your life and experiencing more. You don’t need to add more things to your life, or more responsibilities, as that generally just adds more work and more stress. However, experiences enrich your life and give you that wonderful feeling of enjoying being alive rather than just getting through the day. Enjoy the little things in life, get outdoors as much as possible, and make time for adventure to experience more of what life can give us. Spending time in nature is a great way to get into a calm frame of mind quickly as you leave your busy life behind to experience the fresh air, the views, the scents and the peacefulness of nature.
